Erin loves books and for the past few weeks, she has been reading Poppy Cat to me every time she goes to bed. Yes, I said she has been reading, obviously, she doesn’t read she recites but well, to a just three-year-old it is the same thing! One book though that is super important to us is Hope The Hip Hippo
When Erin started her hip journey I looked for a book to explain what would happen to her. The nearest I got was Maisie had a broken leg. She went into a cast – not quite the same but similar lines. Over the past year I have been a member of a secret group on facebook – its a closed group where I can talk, share, vent and cry over DDH. I’ve shed many a tear in there and also whooped with delight when one of us gets some good news. Friendships that span the world. A connection with people that feel what I feel, understand from a first hand experience what ddh is like from the parents standpoint.
Two of those amazing mummy’s decided to write a book for our children, a storybook that would help explain DDH and the treatment. Erin’s copy arrived this week and wow I can’t get over the emotional impact it has had on us.
I caught the tears when it explained how DDH can make mummy and daddy sad. Erin loves the explanation of Xrays, it has definitely helped us this week as I have told her she is having yet more Xrays on Monday. Hope is now available from Amazon with free delivery. If you know a child going through DDH this book is perfect. What’s more, a percentage of the profit is going direct to IHDI which are continually researching how and why DDH occurs and works and how best to treat little ones like my Erin.
I am so grateful to Gina and Julie for writing this much needed storybook. Erin has a new favourite, Poppy cat has been replaced for now. Reading about ‘Hope’ is important for Erin and she identifys and talks about what is happening. Last thing – please think of Erin on Monday and offer up ‘hope’ that we have more bone growth.

Thank you for sharing and bringing tears to my eyes…It is amazing to see and hear the stories about what ‘Hope’ is accomplishing in Children and families around the world! So far she is accomplishing exactly what she was made for! Thanks be to God for He is the one who got “Hope” going!!
wow !!!! sitting here crying….just like Julie said, I loooooove hearing the stories and knowing that HOPE is doing exactly what God has commissioned her to do !!!! I am soooo thrilled that Erin has found a new friend in HOPE, and you too, Emma !! Know that we are praying Monday and every day !!! I’m going to go finish crying now…. 😉 <3
