How to Become a Sustainable Family in Small Steps

We should all be making small steps to become more sustainable and often our children can be the greatest reasons for change. Erin has decided to become a VSCO girl and one of the things on her birthday list is metal straws! Of course, I am supporting these small changes that help us move towards being a more sustainable family. I reflected on the good things that we already do, although of course there is room for more.

What we already do to be a sustainable family

We recycle wherever we can and one of Dylan’s weekly tasks is to take out the recycling boxes.  He separates the different materials and we recycle what we can.

Outgrown toys and clothes are reused where possible, they are either passed on to friends and cousins, sold on ebay,  or charity shopped.  This way we are giving extra life to things we have finished with.

We walk to and from school, even in the rain.  It doesn’t take long and we enjoy having this time to talk to each other.

We also never waste food, we are really good and not buying more than we need plus we like to grab bargain food.

I would like to develop a little vegetable patch this summer and grow some food with Erin.  I think it would be great as well as practical.  She does love getting into nature in the garden.

New technology is often much more energy efficient which is also better for us all as this infographic shares which focus on the best smart thermostats to keep you comfortable and safe.
