It is summertime and fun is in the air. The sun is shining and grills are sizzling. Well if you are suffering from a case of summer boredom, then some of the following ideas may be just the cure you need to inject some summer fun back into your days.
This summer the whole world has become a different place and we are not having the summer many of us planned or expected. We are not travelling as far or as much, with many of us searching for staycations at home. However that doesn’t have to put an end to our summer fun, you just need to think outside the box and get creative.

If you are looking for some fun at home, then pick up a basketball and shoot some hoop. With a group of people you can play games such as badminton, volleyball, and football. Not into games? Maybe plant a garden or build a birdhouse instead. I have previously shared the instructions for building a bug hotel.
Parks provide a great source of fun if you are not in the mood to stay home. Local parks are close and convenient with playground equipment, walking paths, and open fields to enjoy. State and national parks provide opportunities to hike, fish, watch wildlife, and observe natural wonders. Pack a lunch and have a picnic overlooking a beautiful landscape. If you are not the picnic type, then grab some burgers and find a grill at the park. Just do not forget the insect repellent or your visit may not be as enjoyable. Our favourite places include Wenchford Picnic site in the Forest of Dean and Pittville Park in Cheltenham.
Events are another great way to create some excitement. State and county fairs provide ample activities for a day of enjoyment. Dates for state and county fairs can be easily found by doing a web search. Mark your calendar and plan ahead to attend these day long events. Food, games, rides, and musical entertainment can always be found at a fair. Local festivals are very common in the summer at parks and churches. Just keep your eyes open because they are gone before you know it.
Check the local newspaper or your city’s website for other summer events. Tribute bands and local musicians are always playing at small venues or other community functions. Car shows are another great function to attend. Whether it is to take in the classics or see your dream car up close. Things are beginning to open up again and operate socially distanced.
Farm parks are great for children and there is bound to be one near you, check out your local farm park from this post.
Bodies of water can provide hours of enjoyment. Oceans, lakes, and pools can cool you off while providing fun in the sun. Put on some waterproof sun tanning lotion and take a dip. Throw a disc or ball around with friends. May be play Marco Polo or water basketball. Water skiing and tubing are great if you have a boat to pull you in a lake. When you need a break from the water then try pulling up a towel and enjoy a good book. Locally my teenagers enjoy Croft Farm and Cotswold Water Park where they can go wild swimming and also use our kayak.
Many of these fun activities have been around for a long time and you have probably enjoyed them yourself. But in today’s fast pace and technology rich environment, they are often forgotten or overlooked. So take a few moments and reflect on what you used to enjoy in the summer. After you think about it then gather some family or friends and go do it.

Sharing is caring!
