With another Bank Holiday weekend about to happen and the weather forecast is yet more rain there will be many turning to DIY this weekend. whether that is fixing up things on the to do list or giving a room a makeover. My son’s room needs a makeover and I have been letting my imagination run wild. As he is starting secondary school I would like to give him space to study and do his homework in addition to playing his games console and chilling out. I would also like it to be really bright. Many children’s rooms are lacking storage and this is no exception for him. He does have a rather old high rise bed but the space underneath is just full of half broken toys and abandon projects, cleverly or not hidden by a curtain.
It looks rather tired. Now would be a good time to give him a bedroom that see’s him through his early teen years.
I spotted this bright and practical room that would suit his space really well. The combination of yellow and grey is a real favourite of mine at the moment and would last him well into his teenage years. The open desk and shelving for his school books would be ideal and be a real focal point of the room.
Inspiration for decorating can come from many places including hobbies the child has or favourite colours. Other things to consider for a tweens bedroom is clothes storage.
- It is at this age that their clothes become more important and they need somewhere to hang them.
- It is also the time when privacy becomes more important and somewhere a friend can also sit and chill is ideal to give them their space.
- Gradually this is the age where they are entitled and encouraged to be independent. I don’t put clean clothes away for them but expect them to do it. Likewise they hoover their own bedrooms.
- It is also normal to find at this age that your child starts shutting their door more. I have noticed that if Dylan has a friend around he is now more likely to shut the door.
Watching your child change like this can be a strange feeling but I do take pride in the young man he is turning into.
Sharing is caring!
