I have finished the year fitter, stronger and in better shape than I have in years. 2018 was definitely the year that I found exercise again. A year where I have stepped up and found the challenge that I didn’t know was missing from my life. It began from a chance meeting and I embarked on a 12 week Iron Zuu programme that gave me the chance to experience a whole new way of training. It has also changed my approach to food where I now understand that a high protein diet suits me and helps me to lose weight. Therefore it has been great to team up with Muscle Food and share the January offers they have including the Do The Unthinkable Plan.
Group training has been a game changer for me, you are supported and encouraged as you would with personal training (yet no where near as expensive). Yet you have the other members to motivate and inspire you in every session, encouraging to never give up and to push yourself harder than ever before. I have been picked up and challenged in every session. I now aim for three sessions a week which is more than I ever managed at a regular gym. The other members range from uni students in their late teens to those I guess in their 50’s although its hard to tell when we are all working out like never before. It really is a place for all, no ego’s just honest work rates and I love it. Many start off with no idea of what they can achieve, myself included.
When I started Iron Zuu I had no idea what most of the moves were, I wondered if I’d ever master a lap of bear crawls but I did and I have slowly got better and fitter. One exercise is on a pair of parallel bars, and for the first six weeks or so I could not swing myself up onto them. My feet stayed firmly on the ground but with encouragement, I can now not only hang but I can pull my body up chest to bars 15 times in 90 seconds. I lift weights that I am proud of and I know I will be able to go heavier in 2019. A cobra still beats me but it’s work in progress!
In addition to exercise, I have started to unravel my relationship with food. Over the years I have tried so many diets but often ended up feeling hungry and not sticking to programmes for more than I few weeks. However, this is changing and it is again down to Chris at Iron Zuu for helping me to understand what a body needs to eat and train. During a six week challenge, I lost 16lbs thanks to following his programme. Now I am sticking to the high protein principles. A high protein diet leaves you anything but hungry, in fact, I was amazed at just how much and how regularly I should be eating. I also use protein shakes after a workout now.
Muscle food has made sticking to high protein diet easy, they are a convenient way to stay on track without all the kitchen fuss. I don’t like meal prepping just for me as it is boring and thanks to muscle food I can outsource this! I have recently tried a week’s worth of meals from the Do The Unthinkable Plan and I was really impressed. I selected a range of meals and snacks and they were quickly delivered to my home address. The meals included blueberry pancakes for breakfast, snack bars and meals like beef stirfry that was cooked in under 10 minutes. Perfect for those of us that are busy and want hassle free meals without sending long in a kitchen. Some of the meals are stored in the fringe and others you freeze and cook from frozen. I tried a range to give them a fair test and was not disappointed. My husband also tried the beef stirfry when he was in a rush and didn’t know it was any different from a regular family meal.
The programme makes sure that we know exactly what we are doing and this helps individuals commit and stay on track. I will certainly order again as it just makes sense to me! I could prepare the meals at home, but why bother when they can be delivered ready made! On the muscle food site there are other muscle food offers and snacks and again I will be bulk ordering some of my favourites like the peanut protein balls I struggle to find on the high street.
I have also got a brilliant offer for those of you looking to change your life this next year as Muscle Food is offering an exclusive £5 off every Do The Unthinkable plan. I will have to look into this as I am determined to get healthier and lose a bit of weight for my wedding in June. I have heard such great things about Muscle foods from friends and family, I really should give it a go x
