Pocket Money for 11 yr old – a lesson learnt.

Chloe seemed to think that my purse was never ending, that there was always enough money for swimming, going to town and the cinema.  Therefore this holiday we agreed that she would have a set amount each week and would have to budget and I think it has been a real sucess.  Apparently £8.22 is the average for an 11 yr old with london paying the most and Bristol the least.

We agreed to give Chloe £10 every saturday and there was no more to come.  Well Chloe has learnt the value of money, she choose to go to a local roller skating disco last week and came home moaning that it cost £5.00 and she didn’t think it was worth any more than £2.50!  Tomorrow she is going to the cinema, but her friend and her decided to go on a Wednesday as they can get cheaper tickets through orange.  So they have got the tickets and split the cost, meaning that both have them have got it cheaper.

What a result!  She is now checking prices in town and commenting on how much it all costs.  Well a lesson learnt this holiday then!

  1. Sounds like a winner to me! great idea and even better that it seems to have made her more concious about the cost of things! I hope it continues!
