How do you use Facebook and social media? Do you share every second of your children’s achievements from what they have eaten through to how long they have slept for? I didn’t know this phenomenon has a name but apparently it does. Sharenting.
Do you find it cute or a bore. I guess I sharent – after all I have this blog that details most things that happen in the Bradley household and beyond. Yet I can justify it, as you have to actually search me out or click a link if you want to read. I’m easy to ignore if you don’t like it they internet is vast I can easily be silenced!! However sharenting on a facebook feed is much more visual and you can’t avoid it as easily, unless you remove the culprit from your stream which you may not want to do if they are friends. However does it become tedious when you constantly see on friends facebook feeds their children’s day nanosecond by nanosecond? You could be guilty if you update several times a day. We all like to celebrate big achievements and we all like everyone to know just what amazing and wonderful children we have created but do we over do it?
It seems that there is a growing trend to either share everything with no holds barred or to keep the child off social media and let them create their own digital footprint. I didn’t ever considering keeping mine off the blog, I guess that is because I never thought it would get big and then I would make a living from blogging. My girls like being featured so thankfully that is good, Dylan likes it less. He doesn’t mind being talked about but he does like to see any photos that I want to put up of him, which is fine. I rarely put much about Dylan on facebook for that reason and he has zero interest in having his own facebook at this time. Whereas Chloe had an account at his age.
Do you overshare on social media? What do you think about sharenting is is boring or do you like to see all the little updates? I guess in many ways it is used like a microblog.
The Facebook status I personally find annoying are the ones that invite reponses becuase of updates like ‘well that was weird’ or ‘can’t believe that today’ grr just spit it out and tell us!!
Would love to know your pet hates on facebook or your opinions on sharenting.
Sharing is caring!

You know I first went to Twitter because I was told that it was like Facebook but people didn’t get so judgmental about the updates.
I hate the “oh my kids are my world, they are so amazing, I would do anything for them”
5 minutes later
“Agggh my kids are doing my head in, why do they never do as they are told?!!!!”
I know I over share on Facebook about my kids but I have family who don’t see them on a day to day basis who like to know how they’re getting on…..
I hate it when people say they are so annoyed or angry then you ask why and they say they don’t want to talk about it. What’s the point!!
Yes similar reason i started to blog Kim, to update people like a personal diary.
Ha, love it. Yes I sharent… but I have a reason for doing so. I hope people understand that, and I hope people don’t block me because of it…! But if they do, their loss 😉 My blog was also started to keep family and friends up-to-date. I do try and hold back though and not go into every little detail…. x
There was a lady I worked with shared a very (VERY) detailed account of her childbirth, after that I blocked her on Facebook and decided that I never wanted to be that much of an oversharer.
ha this meakes me really want to know what she shared!!
When it comes to sharenting I try and think about whether what I post will resonate with others before I share, or it it has the potential to upset. So my pet hate is bragging about achievements, school reports etc.
I was thinking today, I keep upsetting people on fb, I think before I had blogging friends fb was mainly people I really knew and shared the same world view with, it’s not like that anymore. Almost anything I complain about upsets someone 😉
I don’t know how you could upset people, your always fair, honest and friendly!
I think in the past I may have been guilty of sharenting on Facebook but watching others recently has opened my eyes to what I was like and I have stopped. So much so I rarely post these days.
It’s difficult and I know some parents whose only link with the outside world us social media so I put up with them on my timeline as they need the outlet.
Interesting post and prices that as social media evolves so do we and how we choose to use it.
LOVE that phrase “sharenting’! And I can’t bear those leading posts either – the ones that MAKE you ask a question! I have a friend who does about 20 hashtags per Facebook post of her kid. Yup. Tedious! My Facebook feed is only friends, not colleagues, so I don’t mind putting the odd pic of the kids up. But I’m always amazed by how many share semi-naked paddling pool pics in the summer. That, I don’t get xx
I think I’m not too bad. I share the odd anecdote or funny comments, but I don’t post our daily routine like some other people. I have one person on my friend list who posts everything from bowel movements to pictures of the baby monitor – bit too Big Brother for me…
I try quite hard not to post showing off statuses on Fb, I do post a lot of photos, but that’s mostly because we live far from family and they like to see what we’ve been up to. It’s a tough balance isn’t it?
