There comes a time in our lives that we have to stop feeling guilty about wanting to find a partner. So many people probably tell you that you are absolutely fine with just you and the children but no matter how much you feel that it’s a fantastic family unit you still want to share your life with someone else. And no matter how much you practice self-care or tell yourself that it’s fine with just you and the children, there can be that point where you feel ready to find someone to share, not just you, but the children with. But what do you need to think about before getting back out there?

Accept That You Want A Partner

There are some people that may tell you that you don’t need a partner because you’ve been strong for so long, and yes, being a single parent is the very definition of strength. But just because you are saying to yourself you want to be with someone doesn’t mean that you are weak all of a sudden! We have to remember that there are emotional and physical needs that only the right partner can give to us. And we could spend so long trawling the zodiac signs for the right person to make sure that they tick all the boxes, we have to be honest with ourselves first. Telling ourselves that we want to be with someone and find a soulmate will make it an easier journey.

First, take some time for yourself to develop a sense of who you are and what you want in a partner. It may be helpful to talk to a therapist or counselor about this process. Once you feel confident and ready to start meeting Armenian singles, try joining a meet-up group or online dating site that matches your interests. Attend singles events or go on first dates with friends to help take the pressure off. Don’t rush into anything serious, but give yourself time to see what’s out there. With a little effort, you’ll be back in the dating game in no time!

Declare Your “Baggage!”

Baggage may seem like an overly harsh term but we’ve all got baggage, whether it’s emotional or in child form. And it’s not for the benefit of the other person to know that we’ve got kids but it’s about being honest with ourselves and saying that we’ve got these aspects of our lives that are important and they are a part of who we are. One of the most intimidating things in going on the dating scene is telling other people that you’ve got children and watching them slowly eye up the exit. It’s far better for everyone concerned to be upfront and admit that we have a history. And if you meet someone that can’t handle this then it’s not right for you. There is no point in you trying to alter yourself for the sake of someone else. Some people feel that because they’ve got children or a history that they are soon to be thrown on the log pile. But this couldn’t be further from the truth. There is that cliche of the single mum, but if you feel that you need someone to complete the family unit so desperately that it could almost be anyone, subconsciously you may very well clamp onto to the next person you see! You’ve got to think about your needs but you need to think about the children as well.

Bring Back Those Lessons From Past Relationships

If someone is so desperate to have a partner that they will very likely fall back into the same traps. We have to remember that there are reasons that relationships don’t work with certain types of people. And when you start to get the inkling that the next person is similar to someone before you may be very wrong but you’ve got to trust your instincts. Ultimately, the next person that comes into your life isn’t just taking you on, but they are taking the children on as well. And this can be a massive test for anybody. And you have to remember that when you bring someone into your lives this person will cause a major shake-up purely because they are infiltrating the family unit. You’ve got to expect that the children may very well put your potential suitors through their paces. And while you have your own emotional and physical needs to think about, children are an incredible judge of character!

Learning to find love when you have children can seem like an incredibly insurmountable task. After all, you’ve got to split your life in so many different directions now; adding a partner into the mix could be one step too far. But you need to trust your feelings. It’s one thing to be a strong single mother, but if you want to share your life with someone else, that’s your decision. Some parents have an unshakable bond with their child because they are so close but what happens when the children get older? It’s natural that children grow up and want to explore other aspects of life which could mean that the mother is left behind. In an emotional sense, we all want that other person that compliments us. And for anybody out there that thinks that it’s too late or that they are damaged goods, this couldn’t be farther from the truth. It is possible to find love.
