Winter is most definitely here, and often that means more time for families to get together and enjoy each other’s company. This year more than ever we have been looking for winter family night activities that we can do together and at home. Are you looking for some fun family night activities that you can do together this winter? If so, keep reading for some great ideas.
Family Game Night
Have a family game night where each member of the family gets to choose a game for the family to play together. Board games, card games, and even video games can be a great way to spend a few hours together as a family. Don’t have any board games? Make one together as a family! All you need is some poster board, construction paper or index cards for gameplay moves, markers or crayons, and a small item to move around the board for each player.
Make Greeting Cards Together
Sit down around the table and write and decorate greeting cards together. You can send them to friends and family members as a special surprise, or take them to a local nursing home and pass them out to residents there. Either way, they are sure to bring a smile to someone’s face.
Movie Night
Pick a family favourite movie, or look for a new one to watch together, I ave a superb list of movies I want my teens to watch. Pull out the blankets and I can’t recommend a heated blanket enough! , make your family’s favourite snacks, hot chocolate or a batch of popcorn, and settle down together. Is there a better way to spend a cold winter night together as a family?

Go Bowling
Bowling is a fun indoor activity that is perfect for a winter family night. Hit the lanes and see who gets the best score, you can even play teams if you like. Some bowling alley’s even have discounts for families on certain nights, if not be sure to check out Groupon to see if you can get a great deal.
Cook a Meal Or Treats to Share
Spend your family night in the kitchen preparing a meal or some treats to share. You can make a favourite meal, or branch out and try something new. If you decide to bake treats like cookies or brownies, make enough to share with a neighbor and brighten their day as well.
Have a Snowball Fight
If you live in an area where it snows during the winter get the family together outside and have a snowball fight. Build a snowman together, or a snowman family to decorate your garden and bring a smile to the face of all who pass by. Make sure you have plenty of hot chocolate to warm up with when you come back inside, I have some great recipes here. If it doesn’t snow where you live, some styrofoam balls will still let you get in on the fun of a family snowball fight.

Have a Family Art Night
Bring out the arts and craft supplies and let the family get creative together. You can start with a specific craft or project in mind, or just let everyone make whatever they like. When the night is over you will have some beautiful memories and art to share. My rainbow crafts have been very popular.
Go Skating Together
Skating is another great winter family night activity. You can go ice skating or roller skating depending on where you live. Either way, this activity is a great way to get the whole family up and moving and sharing some laughs and memories together.
Volunteer as a Family
Spend some time together as a family, and give back to your community at the same time. You can volunteer together at a soup kitchen, homeless shelter, or food pantry. Volunteering together is a great way to remind the whole family of how blessed you are and how important it is to help those in your community going through a difficult time.
These are just a few ideas that you can use to spend time together as a family this winter. You can either stay in your cosy home or get out and about. Does your family have any favourite winter family night activities that you would like to share?
Sharing is caring!
